Multimedia have been a newly emerged form of artistic presentation since the wide application of digital technology in the production and presentation of performance arts. Further development was made when internet as a new channel of communitcation extending its network to every part of the world. The following is the wikipedia's definition of multimedia:
"Multimedia is media and content that uses a combination of different content forms. The term can be used as a noun (a medium with multiple content forms) or as an adjective describing a medium as having multiple content forms. The term is used in contrast to media which only use traditional forms of printed or hand-produced material. Multimedia includes a combination of text, audio, still images, animation, video, and interactivity content forms.
Multimedia is usually recorded and played, displayed or accessed by information content processing devices, such as computerized and electronic devices, but can also be part of a live performance. Multimedia (as an adjective) also describes electronic media devices used to store and experience multimedia content. Multimedia is similar to traditional mixed media in fine art, but with a broader scope. The term "rich media" is synonymous for interactive multimedia. Hypermedia can be considered one particular multimedia application."
Because the format of data must be compatible to the internet transmission technology and size small enough to reduce the chance of data traffic jamming. At the beginning, a number of vendors developed and offered the market their own proprietory formats, standards and compression alogorithm (or codec) intended for the domination of the new market. As we always insist, the chaos can only be ended in line with the interest of the general public if there is an open standard and codec serving as a common plateform for all service providers to compete with each other. On the other hand, the knowledge of customer is critical to the healthy development of the market. Every penny spending on the product using open standard and technolgy is a vote for the open and fair competition of the industry. We would like to contribute to promote the knowledge of general public in the format, standard and codec of multimedia now and in the future. Click the following URLs for our free information.
